Everest Region

The Everest Region has been inhabited for centuries by the Sherpa people, who migrated from Tibet and developed a rich culture rooted in Tibetan Buddhism. The area gained global recognition in the 20th century after the first successful ascent of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa in 1953, transforming it into a world-famous trekking and mountaineering destination.

The Everest Region is characterized by dramatic alpine terrain, including high mountain passes, steep ridges, glacial valleys, and some of the largest glaciers in the Himalayas such as the Khumbu Glacier. Elevations range from lush river valleys at around 2,000 meters to peaks rising above 8,000 meters. The region lies within Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Everest Region is rich in biodiversity and is home to rare wildlife such as the snow leopard, red panda, Himalayan tahr, musk deer, and numerous bird species including Himalayan monals and eagles. The forests are filled with rhododendron, pine, and juniper trees, while higher altitudes feature alpine meadows, glaciers, icefalls, and dramatic rock formations.
